DivX™ Video for Mac OS

DivX video is available for Mac OS (versions 8.6 and higher) in the form of a QuickTime™ codec. The software bundle includes the codec and a "DivX Validator"
application that fixes DivX AVI files so they can be played back properly in the QuickTime architecture. Once the codec is installed, you can use the QuickTime Player
application to playback DivX video files. This alpha release is a decoder-only release; an encoder is planned for a future release. DivX Pro is not currently available for
Mac OS.

Version 5.0 Alpha 2

released 2002-06-26

New:

  • The codec now supports the "DX50" and "MP43" FOURCC codes.
  • After being processed with the DivX Validator, AVI filetypes are changed to "DAVI" instead of "DivX".
  • It is now possible to drag folders onto the DivX Validator's process list. Doing this will validate all AVI files in the folder.
  • Updated the decoder core to version 5.0.2, including B-frame buffering (Smooth Playback option), film effect option (warmth filter), and picture
brightness/contrast/saturation options. Enabling these options will slow down playback significantly, so use them only if absolutely necessary and if you have a
    powerful PC.
  • Includes a new DivX movie icon, which is applied to DivX movies that are validated by the DivX Validator application.

Improved:

  • The DivX Validator now allows you to set a default destination folder for conversions (instead of just saving the validated files to the same folder as the original
    file).
  • The DivX Validator now checks if the destination volume is locked, and if so asks for a user-specified destination.
  • The DivX Validator now checks if the destination volume has sufficient free space, and if not asks for a user-specified destination.
  • Updated the DivX Validator to be compatible with more AVIs.
  • Updated the DivX Validator to increase its speed. The process still takes some time, but this is because there is a lot to be done. We recommend to drag a
bunch of files to the Validator and let them run overnight. In the morning, you'll have validated DivX AVI files that will play on all supported DivX platforms
    (including Windows and Linux).
  • Integrated the AVI component and image component into single binary.
  • After being processed with the DivX Validator, AVI filetypes are changed to "DAVI" instead of "DivX". This is to avoid confusion with the more advanced DivX file
format that will be introduced in the future.

Fixed:

  • Fixed the zero FPS problem some people experienced with DivX 5 content.
  • Fixed the problem where post processing "lines" would be shown during playback.
  • Removed the debugger output window for DivX 3.11 playback.
